Inkle Trim

I've been digging out the "hoarde" and in the process found some crochet cotton. There was a recent call for some blue and white trim for an award called "The Silver Hand" and it's been a while since I've donated anything. 

I did a very quick, 21 thread warp with dark blue on the outside. I ran the white as the weft because I LOVE the little orderly dots it leaves on the edge. 

It's so tiny but good as trim. 

There's my little dots. 

And there's the dramatic long shot of it on the loom. 

Sometimes a change is as good as a rest. Back to swan prep in the morning!

Snow day Språng

The next learning goal is holes. I love holes! I love knitting holes. I'm going to learn bobbin lace one day. And my lovely språng mentor can make net using a series of holes. I have made eyelets before, so today's the day! The snow is pretty but I will be staying inside. Miscalculation #1 - I grabbed the nearest string which was way too fine for a learning project. I finally got the frame warped and started going for it. Plain weave... Ok so far. For the eyelets, I started on a single pickup row and did the pick one drop two, pick two drop one pattern. Being clever, I knew I had to reverse it so I did pick two drop one, pick one drop two for the second row. Not quite. I re read Halima's instructions and realized I missed the plain u1d1 row in between. Ok so I tried that, then offsetting the second row and... Still no 🤣 I threw together a practice warp to figure out what I'm doing wrong. I'm used to things coming easy

Zurich in Adelheid's time - papermills

I recently came across the Murerplan, a very beautiful map of the city of Zurich in 1576. Although Adelheid is just slightly before this time, it still gives an amazing resource to see into her world. You can view the wikipedia article and see the map by clicking this link: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Murerplan One of the interesting things Neil and I saw were the series of mills on the Limmat river. Not all were annotated, but the papermills on the far left hand side were. This led into one of the wonderful rabbitholes the SCA is known for. By the end of the evening, we had learned that papermaking was established in Europe from the late 1400s, absolutely on the heels of the Gutenberg bible. We found a Swiss museum in Basel that has preserved the art of papermaking, which was from linen fabric. There was a 4 part series in book making in Switzerland we read, and enjoyed many videos.  Today, I found this article which describes the process, which is now on the "to-do"

Eyelets

I figured out how to sew around an eyelet! And that's about a good enough place to start a blog as any.  I've been struggling with the eyelet hole since November, when I threw that project to the side and ordered grommets. (I'll post about that outfit later - it's a fun Italian number.) But today, it finally clicked. Needle into the hole, back to front, trap the thread, repeat. Look at that gorgeous thing! YIS, AW
